McLure persuasively argues that orphan care is a critical part of the Bible's overall framework and that it is essential to what it means to be Christian. Through a careful study of Scripture, he demonstrates that orphan care is rooted in the Law of God, written on the consciences of all men, and that the Bible motivates Christians to care for orphans by the boundless grace of the gospel above all else, but also through various other lower motives. Christians dare not overlook what the Bible has to say about this critical aspect of the character of our God and of life in the Lord Jesus Christ. He then goes on to show that the historic Christian church has always sought to care for orphans and widows and finally he answers a number of practical questions. The book is filled with thoughtful analysis of the Bible, helpful data about foster care and adoption, and practical counsel. I believe his thesis that orphan care is not optional for anyone, but least of all, for believers, is irrefutable.
